3 Biggest Mistakes Spiritual Entrepreneurs Make

“The economy has really hit me hard,” Marilyn told me. “I just don’t know what I’m going to do.  I work so hard, but I don’t seem to be getting where I want to go.”

As we worked together in releasing her fears, I realized that the challenge she is struggling with is the same thing many spiritual, heart-centered entrepreneurs are struggling with.   And then I thought about the number of spiritual entrepreneurs who have not only survived this economic experience, but they have thrived.

Spiritual entrepreneurs have been called to bring forth their gifts to the world, but get caught up in the challenge of just “how” to do it.  In addition, they have some very clear challenges that many other business owners and entrepreneurs do not have, which hinders them significantly.

And yet, some have completely thrived in this economy, creating six- and seven-figure incomes.  (And I personally know of several who have created 8-figure incomes!)  In my mind, that completely diffuses the power of the “It’s the economy” reason.

So, what’s the difference?

As I pondered these two opposite ends of the spectrum, I realized that there weren’t many distinctions at all.  Just three, as a matter of fact.  But the differences are significant.

1) Trust. The spiritual entrepreneurs who have thrived have trusted themselves, trusted their intuition, and trusted the Divine to show them the way.  They have followed – and acted upon – their intuitive “hits.”  They realized that they were being led by Spirit to their right path and they trusted this.  I want to emphasize here that they acted upon their hits.  They followed their guidance.  They trusted.

I work with a number of entrepreneurs who receive guidance, but they don’t act upon it. They just don’t realize how important it is for them to follow what they receive.  One of their biggest challenges is trusting themselves.

2) Belief. The spiritual entrepreneurs who have done exceedingly well believe that it’s ok for them to make money doing spiritual work.  This is a toughie for many spiritual people in business:  there is a deep belief that many have that says something like “If I’m offering a spiritual work, I shouldn’t charge money (or much money).”  This belief must be challenged and released if you are going to allow yourself to receive abundance from your work.

It’s old, it’s deep, and it’s powerful, but it can be released. Spiritual entrepreneurs deserve to experience abundance in their lives, just like any other entrepreneur.  As Abraham of Abraham-Hicks says, “You can’t make someone well by getting sick and giving them your wellness.  And you cannot make someone rich by being poor.  The Law of Attraction simply does not work that way.”

3) Deserving. The spiritual entrepreneurs I know who are doing very well have done this one very uncomfortable thing: they’ve invested in themselves.  They’ve invested in a coach and in trainings to help them move through their blocks, and to organize their work into a marketable form.   Everyone I know who has done this has seen an incredible return on their investment.

Can you be successful as a spiritual entrepreneur without doing the three things?  I doubt it very seriously.  If you don’t trust your intuition enough to act upon the guidance, and if you don’t believe you can charge a fair price for your work, your energy, your expertise and for the transformations your clients experience, and if you don’t invest in yourself (read that: believe in yourself enough to invest), then you are leaving money on the table, and will continue to struggle to build your business and to pay your bills.

And what’s spiritual about that?

When you believe in yourselfand take action, you then create things you never dreamed possible.  And a successful, abundant business and lifestyle is just one of them.

Your Action Steps:

1)  Look to see where you are:

a)  Not trusting and not acting upon your guidance,

b)  Not believing you are worthy of decent remuneration (read: exchange of energy) for your gifts, for the transformation you offer, for the healing for which you are the catalyst, and

c)  Not believing you deserve more and are willing to take the risk to invest in yourself and your business.

2)  Decide right now to make different choices.  Trust yourself and your guidance – take action.  Believe you are worthy of fair compensation and ask for it.  And choose right now to invest in yourself in some quality training.  Why?  Because you are worth it, and your business is worth it.

3)  Have fun with it!  :)

Creating Abundance 101

MP3 File

There was a time in my life when I had no money.  I was just out on my own, working in downtown DC, and living in Arlington, VA, and I didn’t have bus money, so I had to walk to work.  It was about 3 miles (each way).

I remember what that was like.

Then later in my life, when my daughter was born, her father and I made a decision that I would stay home with her to raise her.  And oh, how I loved being home with my baby!  But oh, wow, did we ever take a huge cut in our income – over 50% at that time.  Suddenly, I didn’t have money to put gas in my car at times.  It was really tough.  And I worried about it and complained to my friends about not having any money.

Interestingly, on a deep level, I could feel that I was doing something I shouldn’t be doing.  (Complaining, that is.)  But I didn’t have the mental understanding of how powerful my complaining was in creating my experience.

One day, when my daughter was about 2, I came across an author by the name of Francis Scovel Schinn.  Her book, “Your Word is Your Wand,” transformed my life.  She introduced me to the idea of affirmations, and how powerful our language is in creating our experiences.

Wow.

I began to see how much I complained, how much I worried, how much I whined about money.

Double wow.

I decided I would put ol’ Franny to the test.  I decided I would post affirmations around the house, focusing on what I wanted to create.  I went into my closet and decided I wanted nicer, better clothes.  So, I wrote up an affirmation on a 3″x5″ card and posted it in my closet.  The affirmation went something like this: “I am now clothed in the beauty and glory of God.”

Every day, when I went into my closet, I saw that affirmation.  Within a very short time (just a couple of months), I had gotten a whole bunch of new clothes.  My mother gave me some (a gift certificate from Land’s End, which I loved), and I found some clothes on sale at a department store.  Someone else gave me some.  Soon, I discovered that I was clothed in the beauty and glory of God!

I was sold.  My love affair with affirmations began there and hasn’t stopped yet.

Why?  Because our language is powerful.  Because our focus is incredible.  Because our emotions and our attention to things can and do create our reality.

Where are you creating your life to be the way you want it?  And where are you creating your life to be the way you do not want it to be?

It is essential for you to speak powerfully if you are to create powerfully. And it is essential that you become congruent (or aligned) with that which you intend to create.

Here’s how you do this:

  • You become congruent with what you want by clearing out the inner conversations and beliefs that say you cannot have what you want.
  • You become congruent by keeping your word – to yourself, and to others.  Integrity is essential if you wish to become a conscious, powerful co-creator.
  • You become congruent by maintaining an inner state of peacefulness – by not creating drama with those who share your life.
  • You become congruent by holding the vision (i.e., energy or belief) of what you want longer than you hold it for what you do not want.
  • You become congruent by speaking positively to yourself and to others, by being optimistic instead of pessimistic.
  • You become congruent by being compassionate and generous in your thoughts toward yourself and toward others.
  • You become congruent by holding the light for yourself and others, by believing in yourself and others, even when it is difficult to do so.

Each of us wants to create lives filled with love, abundance and joy.  And each of us deserves to have our lives be filled with love, abundance and joy.

By practicing these skills, you will create your life to be just what you desire.

Oh, yeah!  Wow!

Your Action Steps

Start today by speaking your vision into being.  Hold your thoughts on what you want, not what you do not want.  Be your word.  Honor your commitments.  Speak positively to others.  Give yourself (and others) a break.  Choose kindness and generosity.

And watch your life transform!

5 Easy Ways to Create More Abundance

Stacks of Money

Many times people share with me that they have difficulties keeping their minds focused upon what they want, rather than what they are experiencing. (Does this sound familiar?)

For example, perhaps you want more money, but you aren’t making very much. It seems as though most of the time, you feel the lack of what you want (sometimes intensely!).

In this situation, the way to create more of what you want would be to feel as though you have enough … and even more than enough. In order to feel that way, however, you have to be thinking that that is true, believing it is true, speaking as though it is true, acting as though it is true.

The conundrum for all of us is that it’s pretty darned hard to feel that way when it’s clear that it isn’t that way!

And this is where what we focus upon comes into play.

When we focus upon lack, we actually see more and more lack around us, and we actually feel that that is all that there is. On the other hand, when we focus upon abundance, we see more and more abundance, and we truly feel that that is what shows up in our lives.

While it’s obviously not as black and white as I painted it above, our focus truly allows for more of what we want – and don’t want – to show up in our lives.

So, here’s the question: Upon which are you focusing your thoughts, conversations, feelings, attention, and beliefs?

Because that is what will show up in your life.

So, how can we learn how to focus better upon what it is we want?

Here are five sure-fire ways to shift your focus to help you create more of what you want. (And I will continue with the example of abundance that I started above.)

1. Declare a moratorium on complaining about money – or the lack thereof.Seriously. Simply decide that you are not going to engage in this destructive type of conversation. If you want more money, you must begin to eliminate the complaining (read feeling” here) about the lack of money that seems to exist. This includes complaining about the way your children spend their money, the way your spouse spends his/hers, the way your parents spend their money, the way your boss spends his/hers, the way your company spends its money, the way the government spends your tax dollars.  Stop it.  Just stop.

2. Decide to look for the abundance that already exists in your life.Because it does exist. Everywhere. Even if you don’t make enough right now. Even if you are in debt. Even if you can’t see a way out of a financial problem you have. Even if… It doesn’t matter. You have abundance.I promise. If you only have one pair of shoes, you have abundance. If you have a place to sleep at night, you have abundance. If you have food to eat, you have abundance. Now, if you start from that place of knowing, you will really begin to see all of the abundance that you have.

3. Be grateful for what you do have. Now that you’ve seen what you have, begin to say “Thank You!” to the Universe, to God, to the Divine, to Spirit, to that high, loving energy that flows through each and every one of us. Saying “Thank You!” will place you in an open-hearted, receptive space … which allows more abundance to flow in.

4. Share what you have with someone else. There is nothing that says“I am abundant”like sharing your abundance with another. When you do this, you truly get– in your body – that you have enough. Because when you share, you are beingthe flow of abundance. You. Are. Being. Abundance. And when you are being something, you see it show up in your life over and over and over again.

5. Declare your abundance. If you want the Divine to hear you, you must speak your faith. Not just think it (although that’s where it begins). Speak it.“I AM Abundant!” “I have abundance.” “I feel abundant.” “I have all the wealth I need and I can create all the wealth I want.”(That one takes a bit of faith to say, doesn’t it? Hmmm, that’s the point.) Speak your faith into being. Over and over and over and over…

Many people think they only need to say something once or twice, and then get discouraged when it doesn’t show up right away.

No, babe. This is anongoingre-focusing of your thoughts, your words, your beliefs, your feelings. Consider it a re-training, if you will. Speak it to everyone. (Sometimes that takes courage, and you may feel you are lying. Do it anyway.) But first of all, speak it to yourself.

Your Action Steps:

1. Say to yourself in the mirror, “I AM Abundant!” See how it feels.   Practice it at least 2x a day.  Practice it when you brush your teeth.   Practice it when you wash your hands.  Truly feel its truth.   Because You Are Abundant!

2. Stop complaining. Today. Just do it.

3. Write down 5 things you are grateful for (and have abundance with) every day for one week. See how you feel. (Pretty great, I’m sure.)

Have fun!

5 Things For Abundance

5 Things You Can Do Right Now to Bring in More Abundance!

Many of us are looking for ways to generate more income, particularly right now. The holidays are coming and most of us have desires to give generously not only to our loved ones, but also to special charities dear to our hearts. In addition, the economic transition our society is in the process of moving through has challenged many of us to stay in faith that all is (or will be) well.

So, how can you bring more abundance into your life? Following are five easy steps you can do right now to change your energy and change your thinking so that you can change your openness to receiving abundance.

1. Be grateful for what you already have. Hands down, this is the number one way you can bring more of whatever it is you want into your life. If you’re thinking “yeah, yeah, I’ve heard that before,” then see if you can truly get present to the feeling of gratitude. Seriously. Think for just a moment of what your life would be like without some of the things you have and take for granted. If you spent one day – even one hour – truly being grateful for what you have, you would begin to see some amazing things show up in your life. OR you could do what Oprah did: write a gratitude journal daily, writing down all the things for which you are grateful. Try it; your energy will shift … significantly.

2. Give what you want to receive. Ok, I can already hear the groans. “But, Anne, I NEED money; how can I GIVE it away, when that’s what I want?” Here’s how: when you give something away, you are telling the Universe (and your own higher self) that you have enough to give. That opens the energetic space for more to flow in. (This is the whole concept behind tithing, by the way.) And here’s the caveat to that: give with a happy heart. Do NOT give thinking you’re gonna get. Just don’t go there, because that will not work. Give knowing you have some to give, and (back to #1) be grateful that you have it to share.

3. Talk about the abundance you already have. This one is so easy, and yet so few people actually do it. I even forget to do it at times. When you are talking about the abundance you already have, you are focusing upon that. And there is a Universal law that states “whatever you focus upon increases.” See for yourself. Begin to notice what you are focusing upon and what happens when you focus on it. If you focus on worry, believe me, you’re going to have more worry. If you focus on joy, you’re going to have more joy. Talk about what you have, not what you don’t have. I promise, you’ll get more.

4. Trust your inner guidance about what your next step is. You are being guided all the time by Spirit. The question is: are you listening? Do you know the signals? Do you pay attention to them? Do you act upon them? Pay attention in your life. Listening to that still, small voice inside and following its guidance is truly the key to success in life. Because it will NEVER guide you wrong. (You may think it has, but that’s only because you misunderstood the signals or you didn’t see the bigger picture.) Get quiet. Listen. You will be guided.

5. Hold the intention of having more abundance. “Well, duh, Anne!” Yeah, I hear you. Here’s the thing with this. Holding an intention is very simple and we all do it, all the time. BUT, and here’s the big but: we don’t do it consciously or with a positive focus much of the time. This one step is so powerful Dr. Wayne Dyer wrote an entire book on it called “The Power of Your Intention.” In my 4-week Wealth teleclass, we focused on this step for an entire class. Why? Because it works. And because we forget how powerful we are as co-creators with Spirit in creating our lives. Consciously holding an intention to have more abundance, more money, more love, more whatever you want, will help you so quickly to create it in your life. Try it out.

Bonus: It seems kind of crazy for me to send out an article on the five things you can do right now to have more abundance without adding in tapping as a step. So here’s your bonus. Tap. Tap on the conversations that come up in your head about whether you can create more abundance. Tap on your belief about what you can create. Tap on your belief about your being at the effect of the economic situation. Tap on your belief about your being at the effect of anything other than Spirit and your own consciousness. Tap away, Tap away, Tap away all! :) And have FUN with it.

Just How DO We Create Anyway?

That’s a rather odd thing to say, don’t you think? Well, actually you probably don’t, because you are likely familiar with the Law of Attraction and the power of your thoughts. Still, in our society, many people don’t really believe they think things into being. Rather, they believe they do things into being.

And, well, maybe they’re right.

At least, partially.

I mean, you have to DO something in order to get what you want done. The dishes don’t do themselves, do they? And a house doesn’t build itself. You do have to take action. But the action comes from the thought first.

I’m talking here about this type of understanding. The absolute clarity that everything begins with a thought first. And the belief that you carry about something is a well-practiced thought. It’s one you carry around with you, wearing it or holding it to you like a precious jewel.

“I’m right!” you cry. “See all the evidence that supports me?” And you point it out and continue to validate that belief.

(We all do this, by the way.)

Test it for yourself. See how you feel about the following statements:

1. I am the epitome of health.
2. I can create all the wealth I desire.
3. I have perfect love in my life.
4. I can do anything I want in my life, in my work, in my world.
5. I have all the time I need to do all the things I want. (Yeah, that’s a goodie, isn’t it?!)

I’ve just written this, and I’m hearing a lot of “Yeah, but…”s! (…Oh, wait, let me check, are they mine?)

Ok, well, some of them are mine, but I’m certain I’m hearing a few of yours, too, right?

Uh-huh.

So, here’s the thing: we all have “Yeah, but…”s and we have “Yeah, uh-huh, I can do that!”s, as well. It’s rather like they exist side-by-side. And sometimes one screams louder than the other, and it seems like that’s all we hear. (This is called being triggered, by the way.)

But the beginning of creating what we want in life is to begin to recognize all of those times when we are triggered – (and here’s the really important part) – to realize that it’s just a part of ourselves that isn’t the Truth of us, but rather our STORY. It is our very well-practiced thought.

Yes, it feels like it’s the truth. But it’s not. It’s just something we have practiced thinking over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over… (get the point?) again. And because we practiced thinking it like that, we believe it to be the truth.

A belief is pretty powerful, let me tell you. People are willing to sacrifice their lives for their beliefs. Some actually do.

So, let me ask you: what are you practicing thinking so much that you are believing it?

By the way, beliefs aren’t bad – they just are.

“Are what?” you ask.

“They just are. They just exist. They just are.”

When we know we have given them power is when we see how they show up in our lives by seeing what we have in our lives that we want (or don’t want).

So, Here’s the Cool Thing…

Beliefs can be changed. Yup. They can be changed. (I know you know this; I’m just saying it because it goes here. It’s the Truth.)

So, if a belief is something you think over and over again, then a way to change that belief is to think something ELSE over and over again.

(It ain’t easy, let me tell ya. But it can be done, thank goodness, otherwise I wouldn’t be here.)

For example, if you believe “I can’t create wealth and I frankly don’t know anyone who has. Who am I kidding? What am I trying to be? This is a joke!”

Well, first of all let me say “COOL! You know what you believe. And that’s HALF the journey!” (If you don’t know, then you can’t change it, right?)

Well, how about trying something like this: “Even though I don’t know how to create wealth, and I don’t know anyone who has, it’s ok. There are plenty of people out there who have created wealth (even though I don’t know who they are personally) and I can learn from them. I can take classes, and I can take inspired action to be able to create my wealth. And I can think wealthy thoughts, and, oh, wow, I really like thinking wealthy thoughts. They make me happy. So, I’m going to think some wealthy thoughts and just see what opens up for me out of that.”

I think you’ll find it’s a bit softer than “I can’t create wealth.” And when it’s softer, then you begin to move in that direction. Things begin to open up for you. And then you begin to notice more weath coming into your life. Keep it up, and before you know it, you are wealth in expression.

It all begins with a thought that you keep thinking over and over and over and over (did I say over?) again.

So Here’s the Next Really Cool Thing…

If you use EFT with those newly tried-on thoughts (or even with the old ones) you’ll move more into alignment with the new ones (and out of alignment with the old ones) faster. Yes, F-A-S-T-E-R. It’s as though you turbo-charge the new beliefs into being.

Does it take time?

Uh-huh. Of course.

But, what the heck? You’re thinking those other less-than-empowering thoughts over and over and over again anyway. Why not just gently begin to change the focus and your intent, and think far more empowering thoughts over and over and over again. You will begin to see changes in your life. Dramatic changes.

I promise you. I really do.

Now go practice. And have fun with it!
