Years ago, in the early 2000s, I began my business as so many healers do – seeking to heal my own life-altering trauma (you know what I mean – those Divine Initiations so many of us experience which lead us into our true work).

It took  2½ years (!) for me to find my way out of the pain and grief from that emotional trauma. Several people helped during that dark night-of-the-soul time, but one person in particular stands out.

This amazing healer helped me in ways no one else could.

But even as a powerful healer, she had a hard time making ends meet.

She had invested a lot of money in her training and development, like so many of us do, but she didn’t have enough clients coming in the door to support her business (and her life) abundantly. 

The truth of the matter is, she was a far better healer than she was a business woman.

This amazing woman touched my heart so deeply and so powerfully; I truly don’t know where I would be if it hadn’t been for her. She taught me to trust my intuition and she helped me see that there was a whole powerful world of energetic healing I’d never known about before. 

She continues to inspire me – even though it is over 15 years later.[/text_block]

It was because of her inspiration that I became a healer.

Once out of the trauma and at peace with my life and myself, I discovered I could help others find their way through their own traumas.

And so I, too, spent years developing my own gifts, and thousands of dollars in alternative practitioner healer-type trainings. I loved it!

And I opened my own healing business.  And my clients loved what I did with them. They referred people to me, and I became known in my small community.  My business grew.

But… I discovered that I had the same problem my healing mentor had:

I didn’t understand business.

Uh-oh. 

And on top of that I moved. I moved away from my community and my sweet (but struggling) healing practice.  I went to seminary, became ordained, and decided to start my business again, this time in a ginormous urban community.

Big uh-oh. 

I gave workshops for love offerings.  Sometimes those love offerings were just a few dollars.  (You know that doesn’t pay the bills!) [/text_block]

I didn’t know what to do or how to solve it.

After several years of this, I knew something had to change. 

I knew the work I did changed lives. 

People loved working with me, because they kept coming back.  They referred other people to me.  Not only did they refer people to me, but some actually paid for others to come see me!

I knew I wasn’t the only healer whose gifts were amazing and changed people’s lives. 

And I also knew it was crazy not to be making an abundant living.  (I mean, after all, I was spiritual, right?)

And to me, spirituality meant living abundantly.  Consciously.  It meant not living in poverty or struggling to pay my bills.[/text_block]

I knew I HAD to figure it out.  Because if I didn’t, I would have to go get a job.  And I didn’t want that.  I had come too far to quit.  I had gone through too much – and seen too much – to turn back.

So I made a decision.  I wasn’t going to give up.  No. Matter. What.

Out of that decision came an awareness that I needed to  develop my business skills.  You know the ones I mean: marketing, branding, messaging, systems, copywriting, etc.

While it seemed overwhelming at the time, I realized that these skills were exactly what I needed to have a viable, sustainable business that attracted clients. 

My clients.  My ideal clients. 

And without these skills, I wouldn’t be able to do that.  So I dove in and learned.  At times, it was messy.  At times, it was frustrating and I wanted to quit.  But then, things began to work.  Clients began to show up.  People began to seek me out.

During this process I realized I wasn’t alone: other Divinely-guided entrepreneurs also had this challenge of getting clients and building their business.

I knew that if they couldn’t figure it out, they wouldn’t be able to keep doing their work.  They wouldn’t be able to afford to keep doing their work. 

And that would be a shame.

Because they wouldn’t be able to touch the lives they are here to touch.

They wouldn’t be able to make the difference they are here to make.
